Avalanche warning for region Indre Sogn Saturday 29.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Large amounts of precipitation will weaken the snowpack considerably. Keep good distance to avalanche terrain and run out zones for wet avalanches.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 28. January 2022

Mountain weather

Friday 28. January 2022

12 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during the afternoon. -11 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Saturday 29. January 2022

50 mm precipitation, up to 80 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1300 m a.s.l during renoon. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to gale from the northwest during the afternoon. -10 °C to 2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
